As my businesses have grown and changed over the years, I have found it imperative to invest in professional consultation.  I don’t know it all, (as much as I wish I did) and there are other professionals who have been in business a lot longer than I have and have walked the same path.  There’s no need to make the same mistakes if a simple investment of time and money can prevent that.

When transitioning from building a private practice to hiring associate level counselors, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into.  I knew there was a need in the area, and I knew I wanted to provide an opportunity to beginning counselors, but I didn’t know the logistics and steps of adding to my practice.  Through networking and CEU classes, I had met other therapists in the area who had done the same thing, so I reached out to them for support.  Their knowledge and advice has proven to be invaluable.

Sometimes it’s hard to wrap your head around spending money to build your practice.  Sure, you can choose to invest your time in researching the information. That takes hours, even days.  I chose to invest money in consultation. For me, this was the best way to handle my expanding business and staffing issues as they arose.  The cost was offset by how much my business grew. I was more confident in what I was doing, and while the stress that goes along with growing a practice was high, I could talk it through with my consult peers.  The value of what I learned far outweighed the money I spent.

I wish I had invested the money as I was starting my first practice. Learning from experts is the best way to go about building a successful practice.
